HIIM 50500   - Health Information Management  (3)  
This course provides a foundation to the fundamental principles and practices of managing healthcare information and data as well as introducing students to healthcare delivery in the United States. Topics include health record content, mapping, data structure and information governance as well as strategic planning for the selection, preparation, implementation, and ongoing management of health information systems.

HIIM 51000   - Healthcare Law and Ethics  (3)  
Examination of legal aspects of managing health information including data privacy, security, release of information, and compliance with regulations. A focus will be placed on ethical decision making in business and research taking cultural differences into consideration.
HIIM 52000   - Healthcare Informatics  (3)  
Examines the delivery of patient care using health informatics as a means of maintaining and exchanging health data using electronic health records, mobile technologies, and telemedicine. The impact of health informatics on public health initiatives and consumers is addressed.
HIIM 54000   - Quality Management  (3)  
Course will focus on assessment of quality care with emphasis on developing improvement plans to optimize patient safety. An overview of risk assessment procedures to determine process improvement needs will be followed by an evaluation of regulations and common compliance measures.
HIIM 55000   - Finance and Revenue Management  (3)  
Examination of the reimbursement system in the U.S., with emphasis on managing the revenue cycle through strategic planning using predictive analytics and forecast modelling. Governing of information assets, return on investment, and value-based purchasing are explored.

HIIM 57000   - Data Privacy and Security Compliance  (3)  
This course will examine the federal regulations in relation to privacy and data security of health information. Evaluation of privacy and security risk assessment procedures to determine needs and implementation of compliance measures.

HIIM 60000   - Health Information Technologies  (3)  
Examination of the design of information systems from the user’s perspective, with a focus on integration, interoperability, electronic health records, data repositories, health information exchanges, and the systems life cycle. The impact of health IT on consumers, populations and healthcare providers is emphasized.

HIIM 62000   - Clinical Data Integrity  (3)  
Clinical documentation is the foundation of every patient health record and drives the capture of high-quality, reliable, and statistically sound clinical data. This course includes the study of clinical documentation in the health record used to capture clinical data for administrative and statistical reporting. In addition, utilization of the health record, information governance, data analytics and the management of the health data are discussed.

HIIM 63000   - Statistical Analysis and Research  (3)  
Examination of research methods and design in the health sciences. Focus placed on interpreting and using evidence-based information and study design. Students will review data decision making processes and the use of project management tools and techniques.

HIIM 64000   - Healthcare Data Analytics  (3)  
Exploration of the role of analysts, and analytics, in healthcare organizations. Introduces the concepts of the data analytics lifecycle, including framing a problem, data extraction, creating, validating, interpreting, and presenting analysis. Current and emerging tools in data analysis will be addressed.

HIIM 66000   - Strategic Leadership  (3)  
Examination of nature, function, and techniques of administration and supervision in healthcare organizations. Emphasis will be placed on building relationships with key stakeholders, managing human resources, overseeing information governance, policymaking, and decision making from micro and macro perspectives.

HIIM 68000   - HIM Research Project  (3)  
Students will conduct a formal research project focused on a current issue around health information and informatics management from a national and global perspective under the direction of a faculty advisor.

HIIM 69000   - HIM Directed Professional Practice Experience  (3)  
This student-centered course provides the opportunity to apply and integrate knowledge acquired through coursework. In clarifying and broadening career goals, the professional practice experience assists students in discovering, developing, and refining necessary competencies and skills for their proposed career objectives. May be taken in lieu of HIIM 680 HIM Research Project or added to the program as additional course credit.
