Curriculum and Instruction: English as a Second Language (ESL) / Master of Education (M.Ed.)
Program: MED-ESLN-3
Candidates who are seeking a Master's of Education (M.Ed.) as well as adding the English as a Second Language and/or Bilingual Endorsement to their professional license must complete the following coursework. The ESL and/or Bilingual Endorsement is added to the candidate's current professional educators license in preK-12. Coursework in this program is aligned with the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Candidates who seek a Bilingual Endorsement must take ENLE 52700 Methods and Materials for Bilingual Education as an elective, as well as successfully complete the Illinois approved language proficiency test or have completed the Illinois high school seal of biliteracy. The ESL and Bilingual endorsement require 100 clinical/fieldwork hours.
Up to 6 credit hours may be accepted for transfer from another institution with the approval of the candidate’s advisor.

RDLT 52300 Foundations and Methods of Teaching Content Area Reading and Intermediate-Adolescent Literacy, RDLT 52400 Foundations and Methods of Teaching Developmental Reading and Early Literacy, RDLT 53600 Theory and Practice for Intervention and Remediation of Reading, or RDLT 54400 Instruction and Resources for Developing Multiliteracies may be substituted for EDLD 52200 or EDLD 55700.
Three hours of coursework in a relevant area, approved by the academic advisor.
