Biomedical Science / Bachelor of Arts
Program: BA-BIOM-1
Total Credit Hours: 120
Major Credit Hours: 60
This degree is intended for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree but lack some of the prerequisite coursework required of Professional Schools and their respective entrance exams. Students should work with their academic advisor to determine which courses are necessary for the specific health profession/career interest. The usual course prerequisites apply as stipulated in the catalog. All laboratories associated with lecture courses will be required. Students must achieve a grade of "C-" or better in each of the following courses before they can advance to the next course in the sequence: BIOL 11000 General Biology 1, BIOL 11500 General Biology 2, and BIOL 22000 Genetics. Any grade less than “C-" requires the student to repeat the class or petition for an exemption. Students may receive the exemption only once. Biology majors may take a Biology class only two times. If a student has not achieved a minimum of a “C-" after the second attempt, the student may not repeat the class. Students are allowed to repeat no more than two courses in the program to satisfy the minimum grade requirement.

Elective credits can come from any major level courses in the sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) in addition to coursework in Calculus (Calculus 1, 2, and/or 3). As prerequisite coursework can vary for each health profession, no specific set of courses will be required. Students must complete at Lewis at least two courses (6-8 credits) in upper-division coursework from electives. Common courses that will most likely be part of many students’ course loads include this list.
Advanced Writing Requirement
The advanced writing requirement of the General Education curriculum is satisfied by the successful completion of:
BIOL 38500 Biology Journal Club
BIOL 49600 Biology Senior Capstone
