Radiography
Objectives
New students are no longer being admitted to this program. Interested students are encouraged to pursue the new B.S. in Radiography starting in January 2025 through the Lewis University, College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Existing Lewis students in the Radiography program may opt-in to the Fall 2024 catalog year requirements listed below.
Lewis University partners with Northwestern Memorial Hospital in a 2 + 2 program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Radiography. The Bachelor of Science program in Radiography offers a course of study that will prepare students for careers as radiographers. Majors will gain a strong background in the concepts of biology, with a particular concentration in physics, mathematics, computer technology, and medicine in using x-radiation as a diagnostic technology. Students choose one of three options according to their academic goals.
Students may elect to follow the four-year paradigm for the B.S. in Radiography awarded by Lewis University in which the first two years of classes would be at Lewis University and the final clinical classes would be at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH). Admission to the clinical portion of the program is based upon successful application to NMH in the second semester of the sophomore year. Student applications are considered and evaluated solely by the faculty/staff at NMH. Student admission to the program at NMH is not guaranteed.
Another option is for students to complete the four-year B.S. degree in Biology and then apply for admission to NMH for a two-year certificate program in Radiography. Students must obtain/maintain health insurance and submit to a background check as a requirement of the program.
Transfer students must have a cumulative and biology GPA of 3.0 to be accepted. Students currently attending Lewis University who wish to declare Radiography as a major must meet the same requirements as transfer students. Transfer students must complete a minimum of three semesters of the program within the Lewis University Biology department before they can apply as an affiliated student for the Radiography program.
