The RN/BSN track is designed to meet the unique needs of the professional nurse licensed to practice who, having graduated from an approved IDPFR diploma school of nursing, associate degree nursing program, or foreign-based program, seeks to earn a bachelor of science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
Lewis articulates with all diploma and associate degree nursing programs. RN/BSN students are awarded up to 72 hours for ADN graduates and 84 hours for additional four-year degree graduates plus an additional 12 semester hours of credit on the basis of demonstrating fulfillment of basic nursing competencies measured through passing the NCLEX exam and receiving licensure as a professional nurse in the state of Illinois. Credit for six clinical nursing courses may be awarded via challenge exam if additional college elective credit is needed for graduation. National accredited professional nursing certifications may also be accepted in lieu of challenge exams.
Registration and Progression
Students must receive a grade of “C” in required science and nursing courses to progress to the next semester in the program. Students who receive only one failing grade in a science (C-, D, F, or W), will be allowed to repeat that course twice. Science theory and science labs are counted as one class. Upon a second failed science, the student will be notified that they have been academically dismissed from the Nursing major. A student may repeat a required general education support course in which they earn a “C-”, “D”, “F”, or “W” twice and if the student does not earn a minimum of a “C” on the by the third attempt they will be academically dismissed from the Nursing major. Dismissal from the Nursing program does not necessarily result in dismissal from the University.
